Spoker Run

•March 22, 2009 • Leave a Comment

So today the Rusted Chain Bike Collective put on a little benefit alleycat race.

The twist was that this race was not timed. You start the race with a map inhand and search for 5 of 7 checkpoints. Once you arrive at a checkpoint you complete a little activity and pull a card from a deck of playing cards. The goal is to reach the finish line with the best poker hand possible.

So how did I do? Well I happened to be running a checkpoint, thank you very much.

Location: Abandoned Gas station
Event: Hopscotch

I brought vegan cookies and cupcakes which were a big hit, as usual.

Animal Kingdom

•March 22, 2009 • Leave a Comment

So today I went to Animal Kingdom for the first time ever!

I must say that I enjoyed myself quite thoroughly, though that might have had something to do with my company rather than the Animal Kingdom itself.

Frankly I found the whole experience to be overwhelming. With trying to take in all the sights, avoiding the throngs of visitors, listening to Ali’s wonderful stories, AND trying desperately to not be so shy… I found myself with a migraine halfway through the day.

A wonderful experience that ended far too short… And, truth be told, a little awkwardly.

A few pictures on my flickr account but I’ll leave you with this image from the top of The Everest Expedition

Can you believe it!?

Now I realize I’m not the most social person in the world but I have been trying to keep myself busy.

And me being busy means I actually have something to write about! Yay! Or not? We’ll see

Haha

Go Green Project ‘09

•November 13, 2008 • Leave a Comment

So I have started working on a new “Go Green” project for next year.

So I’ve gone months without ever plugging my iphone, ds lite, ipod video, and digital camera into a wall socket. Only using Solar and Wind power to charge them.

So now it’s time to take it to the next level. Today (Wednesday the 12th) Florida Public Service Commission have approved the increase of electricity rates due to rising fuel costs. The rates kick in January and go from an affordable 5% increase to a “sell your first born” 25% increase.

Well with that being said I think it’s the perfect time to do a study on power usage.

I’m going to monitor each of my appliances and maximize the usage of each.

Solar and wind aren’t really viable on a scale like this. Not because they can’t get enough power but because it isn’t cost effective. Also solar panels today will be obsolete soon now that black silicon is being commercialized.

My goal is to get a bike generator. A full kit costs in the neighborhood of 1k and it doesn’t include a bike =/ It’s going to be an expensive project but it the end I will be able to throw the kit into my trunk, strap the bike into a rack and travel with all of it.

This will also help with the Green Lifecaster Road Trip with Mike, if that ever happens.

I’m very excited

Atheist Santa!??

•November 13, 2008 • Leave a Comment

There is a $40K ad campaign going on in D.C.

It shows a guy dressed as santa and reads: “Why believe in God? Be Good for Goodness Sake”

It reminds me a lot of a bus ad I saw in London that read: “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life”

I’m curious to what people think of this (the santa ad). To me it (the santa ad) comes across as a message to be good because it’s the right thing to do, and not because you expect some ethereal punishment or reward. On the other hand I feel like the “why believe in god?” line is alienating. Had that line not been there I’d consider it a grand message… a reminder that people should be good because good is what we all deserve. Sadly, that line IS there and it seems like an attack. Not to me personally but I have never been a prime example of the status quo.

So I want your thoughts on the matter
